Trellick Tower
Location: London, England
Architect: Erno Goldfinger
Completed: 1972
Status: Grade II Listed
Brief Overview: Trellick Tower is a Grade II Listed building located in Northwest London by architect Erno Goldfinger. It was the last major project Goldfinger would work on, and was based on his previous, smaller project- Balfron Tower, also in London. It was designed to replace outdated social housing. Initially the 31 storey Tower, with 217 flats in total, had issues with crime- such as vandalism, drug abuse and prostitution. In the 1980's a residents association was established, and security measures like a concierge put in place. This reduced crime significantly and by the 1990's although still primarily social housing- it had become a desirable place to live. Trellick Tower has become iconic, and has featured in many adverts, films, shows and songs including the BBC's London 2012 Olympics coverage. It is also thought to have inspired J.G. Ballards 1975 novel 'High Rise', and is said to be the location where Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett first conceived the idea for Gorillaz.
Our concrete sculptures are individually hand cast in solid concrete. This means that each piece will have distinctive markings and minor blemishes due to air bubbles in the concrete. This is a natural part of the material and will mean that no two pieces are ever exactly the same.
