Brief History: Nakagin Capsule Tower was a mixed-use residential and office tower; it was an example of Japanese Metabolism- an architectural movement emblematic of Japan's postwar cultural resurgence. The Tower was composed of two interconnected concrete towers, respectively eleven and thirteen floors, which housed 140 self-contained prefabricated capsules. Each capsule measured 2.5 m by 4.0 m and functioned as either a small living or office space. In March 2022 it was announced that the building would be demolished, and despite campaigns attempting to save it- disassembly started in April 2022.
